Different
Drums brings together the indigenous drums of Ireland, the Lambeg, the Bodhran
and new drums designed by members of the group, the
Long Drum, the mighty Pelodrum and the Snodhran
They
also feature the pipes of Ulster, the Uilleann or elbow pipes, along with
the Scottish small pipes, the Highland bagpipes and ancient Irish bronze Horns.
All this is driven rhythmically by the African djembe. Along with whistles, guitar and other percussion instruments they come together with original and traditional songs to make a unique and exciting combination of traditions and sounds. A celebration of cultural diversity and linkages.
From
performances at state occasions in the Irish President's residence in Dublin
and in the Whitehouse in Washington as the guest of President Clinton,to working
with groups of schoolchildren in areas across N Ireland affected by the N
Irish conflict, Different Drums symbolises in a small way the capacity of
the people of N Ireland and beyond to see the benefits of collaboration and
cooperation toward a peaceful and inclusive society.
